Frequently Asked Questions

  • Hiring a professional makeup artist for a special occasion (or casual too!) offers various advantages and benefits. Below are a few:

    • We live and breathe makeup. This means we provide years of accumulative knowledge, skills, and experience in helping you look and feel your best both in person and in high-definition photos/videos. We add that special touch through our expertise, a secret ingredient if you will, in bringing your vision to life.

    • It saves you time and alleviates stress. On your special day, you will be busy. It will be chaotic at times. When it comes to makeup application, one of the biggest burdens for a bride/bridesmaid/other main character is worrying about making mistakes or running out of time. Or both at the same time. Just like professional musicians or photographers, pro artists are trained to perform at their highest potential. We apply long-lasting makeup flawlessly and efficiently, avoid flops, and troubleshoot any mishaps if they happen. Hiring one will give you the peace of mind and make you feel at ease throughout the entire "get ready" process.

    • You get access to the top performing products in the industry without having to purchase them on your own specifically for the event. Pro artists will bring their kit with all of their ride-or-die products, which will make a huge difference in the outcome of your final look.

    • Bridal & pre-wedding engagement

    • Special occasion (e.g. photoshoot, event, etc.)

    • Makeup lessons

    • Traditional and airbrush makeup

    • False lashes

    • On-site touch ups

    • etc.

  • Not at this time. My area of expertise is makeup exclusive (for now); however, I'm happy to share with you a list of incredible hair artists I've worked with in the past you can reach out to!

  • My makeup kit is composed of many different luxury and pro brands for different settings and purposes. For complexion products, I use HD foundations, concealers, and powders, especially if the client will be in front of a camera. I carry every shade of foundation/concealer imaginable so I can create the perfect base for every single skin tone. I choose to use reputable and trusted brands, and every product in my kit has been subject to extensive wear tests.

  • For bridal services during peak wedding months (April to November), I recommend inquiring anywhere from 6-12 months in advance. For bridal services during off-peak wedding months (December to March), you should be safe to inquire anywhere from 4-8 months in advance. However, last-minute inquiries are still welcome. For non-bridal, in-studio, or weekday services, you should be able to book fairly easily, but sooner the better since my availability is unpredictable at times.

  • Yes, I travel to perform services on-site for weddings and other special occasions. I can also travel to your home or wherever you would like to get ready at. Travel fees may apply.

    1. You submit an inquiry form so I can evaluate your needs and check my availability.

    2. I contact you via email to confirm the date, time, location, price, and other details of your service(s).

    3. Once I receive the signed contract and non-refundable retainer, your date of service(s) is reserved.

  • I will send you an invoice through Square (a payment portal) via email. Through this portal, you can pay the non-refundable retainer (required to reserve your date) with a credit card. I also accept payments through Venmo or Zelle. The remaining balance is to be paid one day prior to the date of service(s) and can be paid through the same method.

  • If you are a bride wanting services for your wedding day, a bridal preview is required and is typically held at my studio four to six weeks out. We spend about an hour to an hour and a half together going over your vision for the wedding look. It allows us the opportunity before the "real deal" to understand the look you want, how it translates on your features, and refine the result. It helps both parties feel confident on the big day!

  • Absolutely. Just keep in mind that booking a bridal preview does not guarantee my availability for your wedding date. In order to officially reserve your date, an executed contract and non-refundable retainer are required. Due to the high demand, I am unable to inform clients when other inquiries or reservations are made for the same date.

  • I am fully vaccinated for COVID19 (and boosted!). I do not require my clients to be vaccinated to be served. You must reschedule or cancel the service(s) right away if you or your party is experiencing any flu-like symptoms. I will do my best to accommodate changes in the case of illness. I reserve the right to discontinue service(s) in the event of unsafe conditions without any refund or replacement.

  • Once we confirm the details of your service(s), I will send you a contract that will outline everything you need to know. This includes, but is not limited to..

    • Weekend & wedding minimum: $700 in day-of services is required for weekend and wedding reservations.

    • Travel: All travel exceeding 40 miles round trip (20 miles for single appointments) from artist's location in Centreville, VA will incur a cost of $50 ($35 for single appointments) or $2 per mile, whichever is greater. All parking, valet fees, and tolls must be paid by the Client. A hotel may be required the night prior to the event date for locations outside 100 miles of artist's location or where start times are 7:30am or earlier.

    • Early Morning & Holiday: An early morning fee of $100 per hour will be added for each hour requested prior to 8am. Service(s) on holidays or holiday weekends will incur an additional 15% service fee.

    • Additional Artist: A fee of $200 per artist will be added if additional artist(s) are required to support services due to time constraints. Same travel fees and policies apply. The arrangement must be made by Amy Sun Artistry.

    • Location change: A fee of $150 will be added per service location change if required.
